Media reports Biden’s memoir agreement falls millions short of Obama, Clinton

(MENAFN) Former U.S. President Joe Biden has reportedly secured a $10 million advance for a memoir focused on his time in office, according to the Wall Street Journal. The deal, while substantial, falls well short of the advances received by other former presidents—six times less than the Obamas' $60 million publishing deal in 2017 and $5 million less than Bill Clinton’s 2004 memoir advance.

Fox News columnist David Marcus questioned whether Biden is capable of writing the book himself, citing concerns over his mental fitness and speculating it may be ghostwritten by his aides. Marcus claimed it would be difficult to extract enough coherent commentary from Biden to fill an entire book, given his struggles with brief interviews.

The publishing rights were acquired by a New York-based division of the French publishing company Hachette. No official comments were made by Hachette or Biden’s representatives at Creative Artists Agency. However, Biden himself dismissed concerns about his mental acuity earlier this month, saying he was “working like hell” on a 500-page manuscript.

Throughout his presidency, Biden—who left office at 82 as the oldest U.S. president in history—faced ongoing speculation about his cognitive and physical health. Despite his public reassurances, incidents during his term fueled public doubt about his ability to lead effectively.

His successor, Donald Trump, accused Biden’s team of exploiting his cognitive issues to implement their own agenda, calling it “treason at the highest level.” In May, Senator Ron Johnson announced an investigation into a potential cover-up regarding Biden’s health, following the president’s revelation that he had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer. Critics claim that the diagnosis may have been known for some time and deliberately withheld from the public.
